From sand to snow, the beauty in between

They say, "opposites attract each other"

Right from childhood, we are taught to stay away from the opposites and contrasts. “Stay from those kids.” “Stay from those people” “Stay away from him/her” “Don’t use that, use this” “be like him, not like him”. We are just taught right and wrong instantly. We are never taught to question, if it’s wrong then why does it exist in the first place?

The world is full of contrasts and that is why I believe it’s so beautiful and unique, “When I first held snow, I thought to myself the deserters would love it, and when I first held the dunes, I thought to myself the mountaineers would love it." A world without contrast would be gloomy. There is no light without darkness. It’s because of the contrasts that we see, we are able to define who we are & who we are not. I think it’s through the contrast we learn the ways of our life.

  • It’s through the contrast that we learn to be grateful.
  • It’s through the contrast that we learn how small we are in this vast world.
  • It’s through the contrast we learn what we truly desire and don’t want.
  • It’s through the contrast that we learn what we should not be.
  • It’s from learning the contrast, we decide what imprints should we leave behind for this world.

In a world full of trying to fit in & obeying the conformity. We lose the contrast in the picture and that picture won’t be able to define us because there is nothing unique, we are all standardized procedure that are following the norms. I think staying away and being a norm, is a sign that we are not ready to embrace the contrast of the world. It’s when we let go of the normality, we realize there is much more to this black and white world.

Growing up in a warm region, I discovered how different people can be - like opposite poles on the planet. When I lived among the mountaineers I realized it's the contrast that enrich our world and remind us that life is more interesting when we allow ourselves to explore beyond the boundaries of our comfort zones.
